Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable fees, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will take precedence.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a Vehicle in Wellington
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Wellington, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type, and drivers under 25 may incur additional fees. A valid full driving licence, appropriate for the chosen vehicle category and held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement, is required. Proof of identification and current address must be provided, along with valid payment information and a security deposit. Any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payments in Wellington
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or in person at our Wellington office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and include applicable taxes. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a detailed inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and applicable charges will be applied. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will be incurred if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may attract additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be accountable for any parking fines, traffic infringements, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All car rentals include basic third-party insurance. Comprehensive details, including excess amounts, are outlined in your Rental Agreement. Optional insurance packages may be offered, allowing you to lower your financial exposure. You will be liable for damage or loss up to the excess amount unless additional coverage is purchased. Negligence or misuse will remain your responsibility, regardless of insurance status.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise details, please check your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges, impacting your rental experience.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses in Wellington
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Activities such as racing, off-roading, or other dangerous maneuvers are prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or allowing unauthorized individuals to drive is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not exceed its specified passenger or weight limits, and driving outside the designated geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
Limitation of Liability in Wellington
To the fullest extent allowed by New Zealand law, Car Hire Wellington will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including but not limited to loss of profits or data, resulting from your use of our services. Our liability for any claims will be limited to the rental amount paid in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to cases of negligence leading to death or personal injury, or in instances of fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by New Zealand law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Wellington's courts.
10. Terms Update Notification
We can update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon being posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
