All vehicle rentals in Wellington are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement provided at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance details, applicable charges, and your responsibilities for the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Requirements in Wellington
- To hire a vehicle in Wellington, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. Drivers under 25 may incur additional fees. A valid, full driving licence for the relevant vehicle category is required, along with proof of identity and current address. Payment details and a security deposit must also be provided, in addition to any other criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be conveniently made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Wellington location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are usually required upon picking up your vehicle. All prices are quoted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) and include applicable taxes. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment platforms.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is imperative that you conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed by both parties. Please return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, accounting for regular wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. The vehicle must be returned with the same level of fuel as at pick-up; otherwise, refueling fees will apply. Late returns may result in extra charges, so please inform us promptly if you anticipate a delay. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, plus an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability in Wellington
- Basic third-party insurance is included with all vehicle rentals in Wellington. Details regarding coverage and excess charges are outlined in your Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be available to help mitigate your financial responsibility. Review these options carefully. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless further insurance is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- Prohibited activities include any illegal use of the vehicle, such as racing, rallying, or off-road driving. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and operating outside agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval are also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
8. Liability Limitations in Wellington
To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law, Car Hire Wellington will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, related to your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount you paid for your rental in the past year. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Local Legislation
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes will be handled exclusively by Wellington's legal system.
10. Update to Terms
